Strengthening Oklahoma’s Health Care Safety Net
Oklahoma has the highest rate of uninsured in the nation and every year our hospitals provide millions of dollars in uncompensated care to these uninsured and indigent patients. These uncompensated funds put a financial strain on both hospitals and taxpayers, to the tune of $325 million in 2006 alone. Last month, I introduced legislation to ensure that Oklahoma hospitals and other safety net providers are able to continue providing quality care to all Oklahomans and make certain that the government is effectively and responsibly using taxpayer’s money when it comes to federal health care programs.
